Points of Interest about the Region

  • The region is home to 3 Open Championship courses – Prestwick, Royal Troon and Turnberry. Prestwick was the first course to hold the Open Championship in 1860.
  • The natural terrain lends itself to links golf, however, there are plenty of inland courses that shouldn’t be overlooked.
  • The rugged, yet picturesque, coastline overlooks the Firth of Clyde and the Isle of Arran which is well worth a visit.  In fact this area is an excellent place to start an island hopping trip to some of the 787 Scottish islands.
  • Ayrshire is the region that gave us our national bard, Robert Burns (1759-96), who was baptised in Ayr’s town Kirk.
  • Numerous castles, steeped in history, inhabit this region and it would take more than a week or so to get round them all.
