Points of Interest about the Region

  • The Scottish Borders only has one coastal course which is Eyemouth, set on a cliff top over looking the North Sea.  It could be described as part links, part parkland and it’s signature hole, the par 3 6th hole, over the cliff tops is one to be seen & played.
  • The Borders and in particular the town of Hawick have a long history in the textiles industry.  It may well be that you wear, or have worn, a golfing sweater from one of Hawick’s famous textile companies – Pringle and Lyle & Scott.
  • This hilly and rural area is drained by the river Tweed and its tributaries and flows towards the border at Berwick upon Tweed. Tweed (as in clothing/textiles) derived its name from association with the river.  It is also one of the great salmon fishing rivers in Scotland.
  • However serene and gentle the Borders landscape looks, it hides a somewhat turbulent past – many castles and abbeys lie ruined, some still remain – both tell different stories about life on the border with England.
  • The Borders have been renowned for the game of rugby in Scotland producing many fine players for the National XV team over the years.  It was in the town of Melrose that the 7s rugby game started in 1883 – a game now played worldwide.
