Points of Interest about the Region
- It is in the region of East Lothian that you find the oldest course in the world the Old Course at Musselburgh Links. This 9 hole course is still in continuous play since the 16th century when it is reputed that Mary Queen of Scots played there in 1567. The course was also one of the first to host the Open Championship, sharing the honours on a rotational basis with Prestwick & St.Andrews in the 1870s & 1880s.
- On this 35 mile stretch from Musselburgh to Dunbar you will find some of the flattest courses in Scotland including two open championship venues, Musselburgh Links and Muirfield.
- There are some of the finest beaches on the east coast at Gullane, Yellowcraig and Dunbar – ideal for seabird watching and, if you are lucky, you may spot seals, dolphins and the odd whale.
- A visit to the Seabird Centre at North Berwick is well worth a visit. So too is a boat trip out to the Bass Rock, described by David Attenborough as ‘one of the 12 wonders of the wildlife world’, due to the colony of 150,000 gannets that inhabit the island.
- East Lothian has its own micro climate and is regarded as one of the driest and sunniest places in Scotland.
