Points of Interest about the Region
- Edinburgh has 21 golf courses within it’s city boundary with another 25+ courses in surrounding Midlothan & West Lothian areas.
- One of Edinburgh’s finest courses is also the oldest golf club in the world – The Royal Burgess – based on the west side of the city in Barnton – well worth a visit but book in advance.
- Edinburgh is home to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and is the largest festival in the world. It runs for 25 days every August and in 2017 the organisers reported 2.7 million tickets sold for 53,000 performances at 3,400 shows! This is why you will find it hard to find a hotel room in August in Edinburgh.
- Out with August there is still so much to see and do in the Capital city – climb Arthur’s Seat, visit Holyrood Palace (when the Queen is not in residency), walk up the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle sitting on top of a volcanic rock.
- The city also puts on numerous events during December for Christmas and the traditional Hogmanay celebrations at New Year.
- There are dozens of museums and galleries to visit and endless restaurants to fit every taste and budget, all year round.
