Baberton Golf Club
Course Description
The Club was founded in 1893. The course was initially laid out by Willie Park Junior, a two-times Open Champion, and was later reconstructed by James Braid, a Scottish professional golfer and a member of the Great triumvirate of the sport alongside Harry Vardon and John Henry Taylor.
One of our founder members, and twice club captain, blacksmith Thomas Horsburgh, invented the first steel-shafted clubs in the world, taking out a U.K. patent in 1894. The clubs, and a copy of the patent, are on display in the Clubhouse.

Course Description
Braid Hills is a historic gem of a golf course that was a testing ground for iconic golfing figures such as James Braid and Tommy Armour.
With outstanding views to the Pentland Hills and the panorama across Edinburgh’s skyline to the Firth of Forth, the natural contours and native gorse bushes shape the parkland course and will give golfers of all abilities a memorable round – and provide a challenge for the more experienced.
At less than 6,000 yards, the test is not about the length but about hitting shots from one hilly crag to the next. The layout is one of the most vertically challenging in Edinburgh. There are only a few bunkers and the rough is relatively light but the slope and proliferation of gorse can make scoring difficult.
As one of the oldest and best loved public courses in Scotland, the dramatic setting provides a wonderful feeling of space and isolation on what can at times be a busy course, especially at weekends.

Course Description
The stunning views towards Arthur’s Seat and the historic Calton Hill monuments are just one of the draws of Craigentinny – a relatively short and very walkable golf course enjoyed by golfers of all ages and abilities.
There’s an interesting mix of holes on the undulating parkland course from some tricky par threes to some very testing par fours. The well-maintained greens are guarded in places by awkward bunkers so read the green carefully, plan ahead and with a level of accuracy you should hopefully hit par.

Course Description
The East Course has been host to major events such as the Solheim Cup, the Scottish PGA and the Scottish Seniors Open to name a few.
Nicknamed ‘The Beast’ this course is a true challenge for even the very best golfers demanding a combination of raw power and a precise short game to be able to score. The fairways are wide and mostly forgiving (save for a few cunningly placed bunkers by Mr Braid), so you’re able to open the shoulders and really go for it on most tees. The greens are large and receptive, meaning you should have a large target to aim at if you can keep the ball in play off the tee.
Following a renovation in 2005, we added two new holes in the trees (13th & 14th) which are now two of our signature holes alongside the impressive 18th. These two holes are much tighter with narrower fairways and plenty of hazards to avoid. This renovation resulted in a 7,400 yard course from the Championship tees, however for mere mortals, the course is usually set at a more manageable 6,684 yards.
