Course Description

The- course was originally laid out by Willie Campbell who believed it was “the best ground for a golf course that I have ever had the pleasure of viewing”.
Apart from a few changes made in the late 1970’s by Donald Steel, the course remains very much the same as when Willie Campbell first constructed it all these years ago. Thus it is a traditional links course and, when playing, one gets the feeling of going back in time to the days of Harry Vardon and John Taylor. Indeed the Machrie’s main claim to fame is its own Open Championship of 1901 which included the “Great Triumvirate” of Harry Vardon, John Henry Taylor and James Braid. It had the highest price of any Open competition at that time of £100.00!

Course Description

Gigha’s lovely little 9-hole golf course offers you the most wonderful panoramic views of the island and mainland.

The course has three par 3’s and some testing par 4’s. You had better have your driving in good trim when playing the Gigha course, as the rough can be very unforgiving! Those of a weak disposition should take real care when teeing off the 4th medal, as it can be very intimidating.

Golf was introduced on Gigha in the late 1800s and continued to be played at the Leim course until around 1925. There followed a 60- year gap until 1986, when keen local golfers Alastair “Plumber” Brown and gamekeeper John Wright designed and built a 9-hole course at Tarbert Farm.

In 1988, estate plans were laid to form a golf course at Drumeonbeg Farm and Alastair and John were again responsible for the lay- out and creation of the new course.

The first ball was driven off only two months after work started.

Course Description

Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the hill above Kames, the golf course offers truly panoramic views across the water to the Island of Bute.

During the round there are other stunning aspects across Loch Fyne to the Mull of Kintyre, and south to the Ayrshire coast past Arran. The golf course has nine very intriguing holes, all quite different in design, requiring careful choice of both club and shot.

Although there are no bunkers or traps, there are burns, patches of heather and gorse, and blind shots on two holes to keep everyone on their toes! There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the wildlife as the deer and numerous birds of prey can often be seen, and heard.

The surrounding area has a wide choice of all types of accommodation, places to eat and drink, and many places of interest.
